In Medical Education:

Medical students have had a glimpse into the possible future of education at a trial of Medical 3D holographic projection technology carried out by Trikona in our lab to examine its effect as a learning tool.

3D animations of human anatomy were combined with best professors of that field speaking on that subject. The students’ feedback is now being studied to investigate whether the technology – which does not require 3D glasses to view – aided their understanding of complex topics.

These demonstrations were arranged in medical university and shown to Voice Chancellors and other higher authorities. They were amazed and asking us to show some more content to understand it better.

Whereas the average attention span is up to 30 minutes in a standard one-hour lecture, we are using educational theory to construct dynamic animations to simplify abstract concepts, and stimulate and prolong attention spans. Improving understanding of complex concepts is likely to make learning faster especially when discectomy is not allowed on animals anymore.

Our team is now developing a lecture for medical students and junior doctors around a specially designed 3D animation of the human kidney system, which appears 100 times bigger than the original size in the lecture theatre. The same lecture will be conducted without the 3D animation and all students will be asked to provide feedback, to examine whether it helped their understanding.

In addition to the renal system experiment, further lectures demonstrating other 3D animations generated by us to demonstrate more anatomical and physiological topics. Subjects are going to be covered included: trauma and orthopedics; polytrauma and surgical emergencies; neurology; cardiology.

In Engineering:

Now the time has changed such that interactive learning for the students is possible. The use of Interactive 3D holographic technology will immensely help the students in the classroom for engineering particularly from mechanical, design and CAD/CAM field where these people should have more imagination power than others. 

While studying mechanical engineering one has to to undergo subjects like Engineering Graphics, Engineering Drawing where he must have the power of imagination to answer the questions. If we enlist the different topics one has to study at this level these are

Let?s consider one problem of projection of hexagonal pyramid which is resting on its base and a corner which is made to be tilted such that its two base sides are parallel to vertical plane.

Above problem while solved with pencil and paper technique will need lot of pre-visualization skills and is not easy for everybody. There is now a revolution in 3D imaging and increasingly visual communications are using various 3D imaging display techniques to display information so that they can inform people better; be this students, clients or co-workers.

Medical: Applications in medicine can draw on digital images produced by scanning and X-ray devices or on medical photography, video and other illustrations or create holograms from such sources as; specimens, biopsy and histology

Anatomy: anatomical specimens, maps of the body, muscular and soft tissue structures, bone structures, normalities and abnormalities, dissection.

Biochemistry: Molecular models, visualization of biochemical processes, images of cells and cultures, models of pathogens.

For Medical illustration: to show mechanical and biological function

For Teaching tools: creating visual teaching tools to enhance and emphasise key teaching points for the student such as Diagnostics Education

Geography: 3D models of geographic features and events

History: Novel presentation of historical artefacts and information. Representations of Historical timelines 

Science: representations of atomic and molecular structures and reactions 

Physics: representations of scientific methods, laws and equations 

Mathematics: Visualisation of mathematical models

Augmented Reality has a grater role to play in Education. AR was primarily used for promoting hi-end expensive gadgets and Automobiles. Trikona is planning to deploy it in education.It has already developed application, which can be used for teaching alphabets to kinder-garden childern.
